Update to Portal 2 early release date

Valve is giving us a chance to launch Portal 2 early!

LIST OF POTATOES !
https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1vPutCkoZKA9XL5ZjSuNXfX8NfoeHW3xcrv7DgalKUfE

Remember the Potato Sack? GlaDOS is apparently drawing "power" from computers playing games in the potato sack. For every collective 48 hours for one particular game, that game's "power bar" goes up by 1%. And Steam needs to record you actually playing the game - just leaving something idling in the background does not contribute.

The potatoes we all frantically collected can still be collected - in fact, you are a major contributor if you even collect one potato in one game. Potatoes multiply that game's particular power, so if, say, you gathered 5 potatoes in Audiosurf and one in Bit.TRIP BEAT, you'd be multiplying EVERYONE's efforts in Audiosurf by 6x and BIT.TRIP BEAT by 2x.

Some people seem to think that launching multiple games is a good idea. This is in fact, not helping at all, because Steam only records keyboard activity in games launched through Steam, not through external launching.

Get Portal 2 released early

GlaDoS has finally relived her self as the end of Valves ARG has come, giving players the chance to force the game to release early by playing the potato sack indie games.

BioShock Infinite Contest Promises to Immortalize Your Name

Irrational Games wants to name one of BioShock Infinite's emporiums after you.

There are only so many names to go around, and Irrational Games needs yours to help with the development of BioShock Infinite. A new contest will reward entrants with a permanent part in the game's world.

Irrational's aptly named "Get Your Name in the Game" promotion reveals that certain establishments in BioShock, such as Sinclair Spirits and Robertson's Tobaccoria, were named after studio staff. Now, the company wants to do the same, but with fans.

Anyone that wants to submit their names should go here and do so by April 13 at 11:59pm Eastern Time. Irrational says that accepted names will be used for "a building, a character, a business-whatever our artists come up with."

Whoever gets to be a surly bartender is one lucky fan. That, and perhaps a crazy, glowing-eyed politician or the owner of a fiery grocery, as seen in BioShock Infinite's gameplay trailer. Just remember that Columbia needs button-makers too

China Bans Time travel in movies and television lol

Tired of the frivolous treatment being given to the serious business of history, the Chinese government has imposed a ban on movies and television shows about time travel.

Time travel is apparently all the rage in Chinese films and television these days, typically in the form of fish-out-of-water tales about modern folk transported back to the past, where they must adjust to life without the everyday conveniences they've come to take for granted while finding true love and resolving some previously intractable historical brouhaha. It goes without saying that hilarity ensues.

It also goes without saying that the government of China is not down with hilarity, especially when it comes to weighty matters like history. So at the Television Director Committee Meeting on April 1, which apparently was an entirely coincidental date, the General Bureau of Radio, Film and Television declared that no more history-warping dramas will be permitted.

"The time-travel drama is becoming a hot theme for TV and films. But its content and the exaggerated performance style are questionable," the committee decreed. "Many stories are totally made-up and are made to strain for an effect of novelty. The producers and writers are treating the serious history in a frivolous way, which should by no means be encouraged anymore."

There's a little confusion about whether all such time-traveling movies are verboten or just ones that don't treat famous Chinese historical figures with sufficient respect, although I'm having a hard time imagining how you'd reconcile one with the other anyway. I don't think you can say "this is my boomstick" in any language without it sounding most non-triumphant.

Global Agenda goes free to play

While Hi-Rez is hard at work at Tribes Ascend, they haven't forgotten about Global Agenda either. Have you?

If you have, maybe you'll be happy to know that the MMO shooter will go free-to-play through a mid-April 'Free Agent' 1.4 update. The update adds a 'Dome Defense Raid' for high-level content, a Capture The Flag styled Mercenary PvP mode with pilotable robots (!), revised skill-trees and some other changes.

Although you'll be able to play for free with no level restriction and access to all playable content, you can also pay a one-time fee ($19.99/£13,99/€15,99) to get double XP earnings, credits and tokens, as well as access to things like the Auction House and in-game mail. Really not a bad deal if you ask me, and free-to-play has done wonders to MMOs like Lord of the Rings Online before.

Check below for a full description of the free-to-play and paid user differences.

Free-to-Play

No Level Restriction
Ability to earn all of the game’s current items without spending real money.
Access to all of the game’s current playable content, including:

4v4 Arena PvP
Double Agent PvPE
10-person Defense Raids (including the new Dome Defense Mission coming in version 1.4).
Agency vs Agency Gameplay (AvA)

Earn End-of-Mission Credits and Tokens at twice the rate of a Free-Play user
Earn End-of-Mission Elite Loot upon winning an instanced PvE or PvP match
Choose which PvP gametypes you would like to play when queuing for Mercenary PvP.

Its Thursday Time for some MMO report!

Guess what it Rains in Minecraft 1.5 and It Snows!

Like the tittle says In minecraft update 1.5 it will add weather ! personally I am looking forward to this Also there is rumors that the mod Pistons is going to be made part of the core game

"We’ve been working on finishing up Achievements and Statistics for 1.5, I ran into some issues with JSON, got frustrated, and added weather instead. Developing new features like that is what I enjoy doing the most, so I ended up covering a lot of ground. There’s periodic downfall (snow in snowy areas, rain in others, nothing in deserts) that make the sky darker, hides the sun, moon and stars, and makes everything wet. Ice grows back in cold regions, and snowfall covers the ground when it’s snowing. During rain/snow, there can be occasional thunderstorms with lightning. I haven’t finished the actual lightning bolt yet, but everything else is fairly done.
Once the stats are done and the weather has been tested through, we’ll release 1.5. I’m guessing this will be next week. The piston mod might get added, but it will not be in time for 1.5."

Elderly Woman Pokes Cable, Cuts Internet Access in Three Countries

A senior citizen inadvertently cut the internet access of three countries while digging with a spade shovel.

Some citizens of the former Soviet Union make money by digging for unused copper cables and selling them as scrap. A 75-year-old woman from Georgia was doing just that when she accidentally hit and damaged a fiber-optic cable, cutting off internet access for millions of people in three different countries.

The Guardian reports that the woman did the deed with a simple spade shovel. Georgia provides 90% of neighboring Armenia's internet, so her mistake left 3.2 million citizens of the country without internet access. In addition, areas of Georgia and Azerbaijan were also taken offline.

A system monitoring damage notified authorities who arrived shortly after the woman hit the cable. They arrested her on suspicion of damaging property, but she was temporarily released for "old age." She could face up to three years in prison.

The cable is reportedly "heavily protected," but may have been exposed due to landslides, rain, or other natural factors. I'm going to go ahead and say that if a 75-year-old digging with a dinky shovel could damage it, it wasn't "heavily protected," unless I'm missing something here. Then again, maybe the woman had been playing a lot of Minecraft.

Buy Dragon Age 2, Get Mass Effect 2 FREE

BioWare is offering a sweet deal to gamers who buy Dragon Age 2 before the end of April: a free, full copy of the the mega-hit RPG Mass Effect 2.

It's called "The BioWare Sequel Celebration," and it works like this. Everyone who buys a copy of Dragon Age 2 and activates its Online Pass content by April 30, 2011, will be given a code to enter at the BioWare Social Network. That code will make a digital copy of the PC version of Mass Effect 2 available through the EA Download Manager, absolutely free.

"Thanks to gamers like you, Dragon Age 2 is off to a great start - breaking the one million mark in less than two weeks and faster than Dragon Age: Origins," the company said. "We appreciate your support. As a special thank you for helping with the game's early success, BioWare would like to present you with a download code for 2010's Game of the Year, Mass Effect 2 on PC."

Naturally, there are a few catches. Dragon Age 2 owners are eligible for the free game regardless of the platform they purchased it on, but the giveaway is only for the PC version of Mass Effect 2. If you purchased a used copy of Dragon Age 2, you must purchase and install the Online Pass content separately in order to get the free game, and the offers ends at 11:59 pm PDT, no exceptions - so if you snooze, you lose. And finally, the Mass Effect 2 freebie does not include Cerberus Network content, like the Hammerhead hovercraft and the supremely cool Zaeed Massani, so if you want that you'll have to pick it up separately as well.

But a full copy of one of last year's biggest releases, totally free, just for buying a game you were probably going to pick up anyway? No matter how you look at it, that's pretty awesome stuff. A lot of BioWare fans may already own Mass Effect 2 but for those who don't, this is one seriously sweet deal. Full "BioWare Sequel Celebration" details and instructions on how to get your own free copy of Mass Effect 2 are available at the BioWare Social Network.

Feeding Kids meat Is child abuse ? LOL peta

you don't have to be a genius to work out which organisation claims that allowing your child to eat meat is child abuse. You probably thought of them as soon as you read the topic's subject.

Correct! It's PETA!

I know we could make a library of all the posts that we have on PETA, but I was rather bemused when I read about them in a Scottish newspaper, I generally did not know that they had an influence in the UK (especially not Scotland).

In Edinburgh, PETA put up a billboard claiming that feeding your child meat is abuse...

Article: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/health-news/2011/04/02/outrage-over-animal-rights-group-s-meat-is-child-abuse-billboard-86908-23032707/
This might sound familiar to you...Imagine my surprise when I searched for this topic and I did find a similar post - from 3 years ago:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.85741-Banned-PETA-Commercial?page=1
- Same thing but as a TV Advert.

(I tried to find it on YouTube but I couldn't, if you find it anywhere a link would be much appreciated)

The TV advert was banned in the states and the UK/Scottish would do well to do the same. I believe in free speech, but you got to have facts to back it up.

PETA are defending the billboard by claiming that they are tackling the city's childhood obesity problem.

I believe that NOT feeding your children meat would be closer to child abuse, and they are clearly hiding behind the obesity problem to 'save' their precious animals.

What do you think on the whole matter? Should it be taken down, or do you free speech should take priority here?

planet side next!!!

Following the recent wave of layoffs at Sony Online Entertainment, it was pointed out that two new MMOs "based on the PlanetSide and Everquest properties" were safe from suffering the same fate as The Agency.

While PlanetSide Next is safe from cancellation, PlanetSide Universe spoke with SOE president John Smedley to learn more about the game's future. Smedley shared: "PlanetSide Next is getting more resources and will be out a little later in the year but we are pulling out all the stops to make it great."

So, a renewed focus on the new PlanetSide game and as a result of all the turmoil the game will be out a bit later, but will probably be all the better for it. Apparently more news will hit next week, according to the director of Global Community Relations.
http://www.destructoid.com/planetside-next-is-secure-but-has-been-delayed-198021.phtml

"We wanted to share this information with you all directly, rather than having you read about it on another site. What does this news mean for the squads of seasoned fighters in PlanetSide? There are few occasions when we see Vanu, NC and Terran all aligned in game, but we see it every day when we come to the PS forums or read about your campaigns in blogs, videos and other sites. We are listening; the community’s long-term and unflagging support of PlanetSide has ensured that it is one of the franchises that SOE will focus on going forward. I know that you’ve all seen a few cryptic and veiled messaged here and there regarding a new evolution of the game… while most of this development is still highly classified, we hope to bring you at least a few words from the Producer next week to whet your appetite and anticipation for the future.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play release date for US Rumors and more

A leaked information got to us about Sony Ericsson Xperia Play release date for US. According to Pocket-Lint guys, Verizon Wireless will plans to launch the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play in the US in mid-April.

“You should see the device landing mid-April,” said a Sony Ericsson product manager at a Verizon pre CTIA party.

Eventhough there is no exact release date but this information is more than enough for now. With Xperia play being released on April 1st in UK I think mid-April is quite reasonable time-frame for US release.

XperiaTM PLAY delivers the smartphone functionality that the most serious power users could need, teamed with the immersive gaming experience that any gamer would want.

In portrait mode, the Android smartphone offers all the benefits that users have come to expect from Sony Ericsson’s existing range of XperiaTM smartphones with best-in-class entertainment experiences, a great 5 megapixel camera, a brilliant 4” multi-touch screen and great social networking features.

However, slide out the gaming control and users enter a new world of immersive mobile gaming. The slide out game pad reveals a digital D pad, two analogue touch pads, two shoulder buttons and the four PlayStation icons: circle, cross, square and triangle. Qualcomm’s optimized Snapdragon processor with a 1Ghz CPU and embedded Adreno GPU graphics processor deliver silky smooth 60fps play-back 3D mobile gaming and Web browsing with minimal power consumption so Xperia PLAY users can enjoy long hours of battery life and game time.

Rikko Sakaguchi, Executive Vice President and Chief Creation Officer at Sony Ericsson commented: “Today is a very proud moment for Sony Ericsson as we bring something truly revolutionary to the market. Living up to our vision of Communication Entertainment, Xperia PLAY will forever change the way people think about smartphones and mobile gaming.

XperiaTM PLAY will run on Gingerbread (version 2.3), the latest version of Google’s AndroidTM platform. The XperiaTM PLAY will also be the first PlayStation Certified device. This means it will have access to PlayStation® game content provided through the PlayStation® Suite initiative,
